→ Scratch Lamp, 2024

The Scratch Lamp is a concept floor lamp created as a collectible design piece for VAUST studio, based in Berlin.
Central to its design is a 4cm thick acrylic glass slab, a leftover material from a previous studio collection, which serves as the lamp’s primary component.

The innovative concept involves dividing the acrylic glass into two identical pieces, each measuring 60 x 140cm.
These pieces act as individual canvases, uniquely showcasing the artistic vision of the studio’s founders.

What sets the Scratch Lamp apart is its deliberate approach to distressing the acrylic glass and leveraging its interaction with light. The lamp features two LED stripes mounted on an aluminium profile that secures the acrylic glass and the diffuser using bolts.

When illuminated, the scratches and textures on the acrylic glass come to life, producing a striking visual display. This effect not only highlights the artistic process involved in the distressing process but also creates a captivating interplay between light and material.

Throughout the development process, meticulous attention was paid to both aesthetic appeal and functional integrity. The integration of the acrylic glass with LED technology not only enhances the lamp’s visual allure but also underscores its role as a functional lighting solution.
